3 Year Old Class

The 3 year old class is an introduction to the structured school environment and most students transition from this class to the 4 year old class. The 3 year old class is open to children that are 3 years of age on or before September 1st. The class meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:00 am - 11:30 am.

Daily Schedule

  • 9:00 - 9:15       Children arrive; open play
  • 9:15 - 9:30       Music and Movement, Story Time
  • 9:30 - 9:45       Circle/CalendarTime, Star of the week (January - May)
  • 9:45 - 10:15      Center Time; small groups working on fine motor, computers & math, Crafts, Special unit activities
  • 10:15 - 10:30    Wash hands; Use bathroom
  • 10:30 - 10:45    Snack, Also use this time to promote good manners and social skills
  • 10:45 - 11:00    Activity Time (gross motor), Scooters, parachute, relays, balls, obstacle course, etc.
  • 11:00 - 11:20    Table Time, Letter of the week activities, Crafts, Special unit activities
  • 11:20 - 11:30    Open Play

Areas of Concentration

The following are tasks that we will be working on throughout the school year. Some of them will not begin until January.

  • Recite the alphabet
  • Begin letter sounds
  • Begin letter recognition
  • Count to 10 
  • Recognize and name numbers 1-10
  • Recognize and name shapes - square, circle, triangle, rectangle, star, heart, oval and diamond
  • Recognize and name colors - yellow, orange, black, brown, red, green, blue, purple, white and pink
  • Recognize first name
  • Begin writing first name
  • Independently cut on a line
  • Recite the Pledge of Allegiance
  • Recite the days of the week
  • Distinguish between left and right 
  • Visual memory - remember the placement of 3 pictures
  • Auditory memory - remember 3 familiar sounds or numbers
  • Same and different
  • Gross Motor - run, jump, hop on one foot and walk on balance beam
