The Board of Commissioners of the Grandwood Park Park District will have three (3) seats up for election in the April 2023 Consolidated Election.

In a nutshell, you will help set goals, formulate and adopt policies, establish service that meets the present and future needs of the citizens of our district, and oversee operations and staff. You will help determine the annual budget and determine how to best use taxpayer money.

Candidates must be a resident of the park district for at least one year prior to the election and must be registered voters within the park district.

A park district commissioner must reside with the district during their entire term of office.

The Board meets once a month on the second Wednesday of each month. There are times that special meetings will also be necessary to complete park business. All meetings are open to the public, with a few exceptions. Closed session meetings will be held to discuss topics that should not be discussed in a public meeting.

There are many laws that park districts have to abide by, as well as policies that have been set by our own park board. Those policies are in the Board Policy Manual which can be found on this website.

You can find quite a bit of information on the park district website, under the ABOUT tab. You can contact any current Board member with your questions – email addresses are on the website. You can email or call the office at 847-356-0008.

You need to complete a set of nomination papers and file them in the Park District office during normal business hours (noon – 5:00pm Monday-Friday).

Petitions may be filed in the office from Monday, December 12, 2022, until 5:00pm on Monday, December 19th, 2022. Nomination papers will not be accepted before December 12th or after 5:00pm on December 19th.

You will be able to print them from our website (under the ABOUT tab), pick them up from the Park District office during normal business hours (noon-5pm Monday thru Friday),  or from the Illinois State Board of Election website at

Being a Board member does take dedication and time, but is a very rewarding experience!
