All About Us
We were founded in 1979 by the Park District with the idea that every child is unique and, therefore, special.
Lead Teacher, Erin Magnuson, has a B.A. degree in Elementary Education from Taylor University in Indiana. Mrs. Magnuson’s teaching experiences around the Chicagoland area included fifth grade, second grade, and preschool.
Assistant Teacher, Karen Osborne, joined the Park District in 2018.
Our goal is to help your child develop new skills while having fun. We will work on literacy and math concepts, science, art, music, physical activities, following directions, and working with others. We will do this as we play, listen to stories, dance, draw, explore our environment, and much more!
We offer two programs at Little Learners Preschool. Our Explorers Class (4-5 year olds) meets Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Children must be 4 on or before September 1st. Our Climbers Class (3-4 year olds) meets Tuesday and Thursday each week. Children must be 3 on or before September 1st. Both classes meet from 9:00-11:30am. All children must be potty-trained before the beginning of school.
Our curriculum is based on the Illinois Early Learning and Development Standards. Our goal is to help your child develop new skills while having fun. We will lay the foundational framework to be a successful student through direct instruction and through discovery activities. We also want to encourage your child to learn responsibility, be kind and respectful to others, and to have manners.
Monthly we will focus on particular colors, shapes, and a character building word. Learning sight words will be included for the 4-5 year olds as we work through the alphabet.
Weekly there will be different themes that will assist in teaching literacy and math concepts, science, art, music and physical activities. The children will learn as they play, listen to stories, dance, create, explore the environment, and much more.
As a parent you will receive a monthly calendar and a newsletter outlining the weekly themes and skills that will be taught and explored. Daily lesson plans will always be posted outside the door for you to view.
If you have any questions about our program, please do not hesitate to reach out to us. We would love to have your child be a part of our preschool!
