As a Board member, you will be responsible for working with the other commissioners to set goals, formulate policies, and establish services that will meet the present and future needs of the citizens of our district. You will have input on the spending of tax dollars, fees, and donations designated for park and recreation services.
A park district commissioner is a vital role in the community but does not take a tremendous amount of time.
There will be 3 open seats up for election at the April 6, 2027 election – each serving a 4-year term.
If you have questions and would like to talk to a current commissioner, please feel free to contact Dave Nichols, President of the Board, at dnichols@grandwoodpark.net, or Tori Nygren, Vice President of the Board, at tnygren@grandwoodpark.net. We also encourage you to attend a meeting or two of the Board. These meetings are held the 2nd Wednesday of each month at 6:00pm in the community center conference room located at 36630 N. Hutchins Rd.
To run for a seat on the Board, this is what you need to do:
- Stop into the park district office to pick up a “Petition for Nomination” packet. These are available now. Our regular office hours are: Monday – Thursday 1:00-6:00pm. Friday-Sunday CLOSED.
- Complete the information required.
- Gather 25 signatures from residents of the park district.
- Have the documents notorized.
- Complete the Statement of Economic Interest and file it with the Lake County Clerk’s office. Attach the receipt to your nomination papers.
- Turn your Petition for Nomination papers into the park district office. The first day to turn them in is November 16, 2026. The last day they will be accepted is November 2, 2026.
- The Consolidated Election will be held on Tuesday, April 6, 2027.
- If you are elected, you will begin your 4-year term at the annual meeting on May 12, 2027.
